Hi, I’m Maggie!
It all began with a crochet hook, yarn and an endless chain of loops. In middle school, my mom taught me the basics of crochet and I’ve been at it ever since. I added knitting to my repertoire shortly thereafter and attempted to make a pair of mittens. Unfortunately, the first mitten was made for a giant as I must have misread the pattern and just kept increasing and increasing. I look back on those first projects and chuckle. How far I’ve come.
My fiber journey really took off in adulthood as I took classes and built up my skills. Today, I enjoy both knitting and crocheting all sorts of things from stuffed animals to socks and sweaters.
I also love teaching. I have been a middle school science teacher for over a decade. During my time at various schools, I have had the pleasure of teaching kids how to knit and crochet. I have cultivated a calm, patient and encouraging demeanor and believe that anyone can learn the craft. If I can teach middle schoolers, I can teach you!
By combining my love of fiber with my love of teaching, MaggieKnits was born. My goal is to share these loves with you and help you on your fiber journey. Whether you are a complete beginner, want a refresher or learn a new skill, let’s work together!
